Video: Police Hold Press Conference on Wantagh Officer Killed In Line of Duty

Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano as well as Nassau County Police Commissioner Lawrence Mulvey spoke about the fallen officer.

A few hours after it was announced that Nassau County Highway Patrol Officer Michael Califano of Wantagh was killed in the line of duty as a result of a collision on the Long Island Expessway Friday night, a press conference was held in Mineola to provide further details of the tragic accident.

Califano, a 12-year member of the Nassau County Police Department, was fatally hit while he was pulled over near Exit 39 of the Long Island Expressway while trying to give someone a warning about a light on their car being out, according to authorities at the press conference. John Kaley, 25, of New Britain, Conn., was charged with one count of criminally negligent homicide, three counts of assault in the third degree and failing to move over for an emergency vehicle as a result of his collision into Officer Califano's car, according to police.

Here are some videos of the press conference held at Nassau County Police headquarters in Mineola.

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.
