Wantagh Boat Captain, Crew Member Rescued

Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau officers rescued the pair Friday afternoon.

A Wantagh boat captian and his crew member were rescued Friday afternoon after their vessel lost engine power and was getting tossed around by gale force winds and more than five-foot waves.

According to the Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau officers, Ramy Latif, 37, of Wantagh along with his crew member, were in teh Great South Bay, approximately a half-mile north of Fire Island Pines when they called police for assistance.

Officers Robert Daniels, Daniel Smith, and Kevin Comiskey on Marine Kilo located the 38-foot lobster-style vessel using GPS coordinates. The boat is used for transporting workers to and from Fire Island Pines.  

The officers attached a tow line to the disabled vessel at 2:06 p.m. and towed it approximately three miles to Brown’s River.
