The Wantagh Fire Department extinguished a car fire that shut down Sunrise Highway Tuesday.

The fire, which took place at 5:51 p.m., happened on the eastbound side of Sunrise Highway near Brookside Avenue.

The Nassau County Fire Marshal was called due to the gas tank that leaked into the storm drain. Sunrise Highway was closed for about at 45 minutes while responders secured the scene.

Nobody was injured.

What I find amazing about this article is that the fact that a good Samaritan saved the two women in the car. He saw the car on fire, tried to get them to pull over and when they wouldn't he turned his truck in front of them to get them to stop. And got them both out safely!!!!! That man is my nephew Carl.
