Wantagh Fire Department to Host Disaster Drill

Departments around the area to take part in mass casualty simulation.

If you see emergency vehicles from around the region at Zach's Bay Sunday, don't worry, it's only a drill.

The Wantagh Fire Department will host a simulation of a mass casualty event at 10 a.m. Sunday.

They will deal with a hypothetical scenario in which a regional jet with 75 people aboard attempts to make a landing on Ocean Parkway at Jones Beach.

The "plane" and a building catch fire and emergency personnel will simulate the treatment of patients on the plane and on the ground.

Among the agencies taking part will be Fire Departrment in Seaford, Massapequa, Bellmore, Levittown, East Meadow, West Islip, Merrick and the FDNY.

State Park Police, and EMS units from Jones Beach, Suffolk County and Nassau Police will also take park as well as representatives from hospitals and other agencies.
