Wantagh Man Arrested for Cherrywood Mobil Robbery

Cops receive anonymous tip regarding Matthew Baldwin's alleged role in the armed robbery of the Wantagh gas station.

Special Operation officers arrested a Wantagh man Friday in connection with the of the gas station late Thursday night.

According to Seventh Squad detectives, Matthew Baldwin, 21, of Wantagh, was arrested at Harbor Boulevard and Narraganset Avenue in Seaford after receiving an anonymous tip. 

According to the police report, Baldwin entered the gas station located at 1200 Wantagh Ave. shortly before midnight on Thursday armed with a black handgun. He allegedly approached the attendant and demanded money. The victim opened the cash register and the subject reached in and grabbed cash. Baldwin reportedly then fled the scene in a black SUV.

Baldwin is being charged with Robbery 1st Degree, Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree, Possession of a Dangerous Weapon 4th Degree, Unlawful Fleeing of a P.O. 3rd Degree and Unlawful Possession Radio Device.  He will be arraigned on Saturday in First District Court in Hempstead.
