Wantagh Man Charged With DWI on Southern State Parkway

State Police said Brian Derham produced blood blood alcohol level of .12 percent.

A Wantagh man was arrested by state police early Thursday morning and charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI) on the Southern State Parkway in Valley Stream.

According to police, at 12:05 a.m., a state trooper observed a gray Honda stopped partially in the right lane on the eastbound side of the Southern State Parkway near exit 13 (Central Avenue). While interviewing the vehicle operator, Brian Derham, 53, of Wantagh, the trooper detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. Derham failed sobriety tests and was subsequently arrested for DWI, police said.

Derham produced a breath sample of .12 percent blood alcohol level, according to police. The legal limit in the State of New York is .08 percent.

Derham was arrested for DWI and traffic violations and is scheduled to appear in Nassau County First District Court in Hempstead on Sept. 2.
