Wantagh Motorcycle Victim Mourned Near Accident Site

Friends remember 2010 Wantagh High School graduate, Nick Monteleone, after his fatal crash on Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway Monday.

Less than 24 hours after the death of a 21-year old Wantagh man in a motorcycle crash on the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway, many of his friends are gathering near the accident site to pay tribute and console each other.

Friends who were overlooking the scene of Monday night’s fatality, which occurred between exit 4 and 3 of the southbound Route 135, said the victim was 2010 Wantagh High School graduate Nick Monteleone. Three of Monteleone’s close friends who were on the highway overpass, just north of exit 3, were brothers, Joe and Johnny Muller, and Sean Watson, who said Monteleone was in the Air Force Reserves and had great character. In addition to serving his country with the Air Force, Monteleone also attended classes at Farmingdale State College.

“Anybody who knew him was friends with him,” Watson said. “He was a great kid."

“If anybody needed him, he was there," Joe Muller said.

”According to Nassau County Seventh Squad detectives, while traveling southbound on his 2012 Suzuki motorcycle on Route 135, the 21-year old lost control of his motorcycle, struck the center divider and was ejected, and suffered a fatal injury. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Barbara Muller was also at the Route 135 overpass with her sons early Tuesday afternoon and said Monteleone was often at their house and that he would go with their family on ski trips to Pennsylvania. She said he was part of a tight-knit group of Wantagh friends that included Watson, Joe, Johnny and Tom Muller, Dan Hooker, Chris Coico and Chris Hill.

“He was like a brother to them,” she said. “He was a big part of our family.”
