Wantagh Woman Struck by SBU Police Car Remains in Fair Condition

Stony Brook University student hit by a campus police car this past Thursday night has been identified as Brianna Bifone of Wantagh.

A Stony Brook University student from Wantagh who was struck by a campus police car this past Thursday night remains at Stony Brook University Hospital the hospital in fair condition, a hospital spokesman said Monday.

The student has been identified by campus newspaper The Statesman as Brianna Bifone of Wantagh. A Stony Brook athletics spokesman confirmed Monday that Bifone spent last season as a manager with the Seawolves' football team. Bifone's Facebook page says she is a graduate of Wantagh High School.

Three Village Patch previously reported that a campus police officer was driving on Circle Road west of Engineering Drive – with its emergency lights on – when the officer struck a sidewalk and veered in the opposite direction, causing the vehicle to hit the student.

The Statesman reported that the officer was on the way to respond to a large group of students at the Student Union when the accident occurred. The newspaper also reported that Bifone's legs were pinned under the vehicle for about 30 minutes.

The accident is still under investigation.
