Woman Escorted to Safety After Fire Breaks Out [VIDEO]

Members of the Oceanside Fire Department spotted the smoke and were the first at the scene.

A Wantagh woman escaped harm's way when a fire broke out in her home just before 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

According to a public information officer from the Wantagh Fire Department, members of the Oceanside Fire Department were en route to fire school when they noticed smoke emanating from the Oakland Avenue home. A police officer entered the home and escorted the woman out to safety. She was not injured during the incident.

Chief William Allen said the cause of the fire has not been determined as of yet, and it took three hose lines to extinguish the blaze.

Oakland Avenue was shut down while the firefighters contained the situation.

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.
