Adoptable Animal of the Week: Meet Licorice

Learn how you can make this loving little gal part of your family.

Name: Licorice

Case Number: #5849

My name is Licorice and I am a sweet, loving little gal.

I love just about everyone I meet. I can be very playful and I enjoy toys, but I will give them up easily for a tasty treat. I even know how to fetch, and will return the ball to your hand! I tolerate all types of handling and will readily share my resources with people.

I get a little scared of unusual new people (ie. those who are limping or wearing hoods), so I may choose to hide behind you, and I have a little trouble getting over my fears. My adopters will need to patiently introduce me to new experiences that concern me so that I can get more comfortable with them. I look to my human companion for direction. I may get a little sad if scolded but I accept apology readily. Due to my shyness, I may be more comfortable in a household of tweens and up.

I tend to be stiff and uncertain around other dogs, because I haven't had a lot of experience with them. When I do play, I can be a bit over the top. To help me learn to play better, careful introductions and play dates with dogs who won’t take offense to my antics might be a good place for me to start. Ultimately, I’m really more of a people-centric pooch.

I don't know any basic commands, but I'm eager to learn for a taste of my favorite treats! I am proud to say that I walk very nicely on the leash. Training may help build my confidence and will help us forge a relationship.

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.

True, true, I'm sure there's a political payoff/payback here somewhere.

A tantalizing, mind-teasing story about a faceless team with no names who won honorable mention forRead More some project about which we learned absolutely nothing from this article. Journalism 101: Who what, why when and where?
