Adoptable Animal of the Week: Meet Yankee

This handsome and affectionate boy is hoping to find his forever home.

Name: Yankee

Case Number: #6190

My name is Yankee and I am a sweet, loving chap. I love everyone, even the most unusual of strangers, and relish being petted and massaged.

I’m such a social butterfly that I might well make a great therapy pet with a little training. I enjoy playing with people, and though I’m not terribly playful with toys now, I may become more so once in a home.

I am a little uncomfortable with some handling (muzzle), and I tend to be a little hand-shy and I act as if I’ve been hit in the past. I will readily share my resources with people. Because of my sensitivity to certain handling, I'd be better in a home with older children.

I am very interested in other dogs and will enjoy their company. Since I’m somewhat inexperienced in dog play, some dogs can be a bit too much for me; Play dates and developing friendships with dogs who play like I do, would help me gain experience.

I'm housebroken, and although I don't know any basic commands, I'm eager to learn some for a taste of my favorite treats! One thing I definitely need to learn is to walk nicely on leash. And training will help us forge a relationship.

Right now, I'm living at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter in Wantagh, but I'm looking forward to the day I can meet my new forever family.

To learn more about adopting Yankee, please contact the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter at (516) 785-5220 or stop by the shelter, which is located at 3320 Beltagh Ave. in Wantagh. Adoption hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. All adopted pets will be spayed or neutered, will receive all required innoculations and will be microchipped, all free of charge.

True, true, I'm sure there's a political payoff/payback here somewhere.

A tantalizing, mind-teasing story about a faceless team with no names who won honorable mention forRead More some project about which we learned absolutely nothing from this article. Journalism 101: Who what, why when and where?
