Becker Defeats Scaturro in Republican Primary

Nassau County Legislator will face Carolyn McCarthy in 4th Congressional District race.

Nassau County Legis. Francis Becker, R-Lynbrook, will get a second chance to challenge Rep.  Carolyn McCarthy, D-Mineola for her seat in November, after winning the Republican primary Tuesday, according to unofficial election results.

With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Becker received 55 percent of the vote to challenger , who garnered 44 percent. The two candidates had sparred for the nomination in 2010, when Becker was also victorious.

"Thank you to everyone who came out to vote at the polls today," Becker said on his Facebook page after Wednesday’s election. "Thank you for caring about our country and community and also supporting our system of democracy."

The Fourth Congressional District  under a redistricting plan  by a three-judge Federal Court panel. The entire Wantagh community had previously been covered by Rep. Peter King, R-Seaford.

Becker will face McCarthy, who ran unopposed on the Democratic line, in the November race. for a bid to the seat, 89,828 votes to 77,483.

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.
