County Hosting 'Santa in the Park' Event in Wantagh Saturday

Santa Claus will be arriving by fire truck at Wantagh Park Saturday afternoon.

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced Thursday that a “Santa in the Park” event will be taking place this Saturday in Wantagh.

Santa Claus will be making an appearance in the Wantagh Park Community Clubhouse Saturday starting at 1 p.m. After Santa arrives in a fire truck, all children will have the opportunity to meet with him and give their wish list for Christmas. Candy, cookies, and hot chocolate will also be distributed by Santa’s elves.

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.

True, true, I'm sure there's a political payoff/payback here somewhere.
