Extension of Tax Deadline Granted for Residents in Wantagh, Seaford School Districts

Extension concerns the deadline by which school taxes must be paid in order avoid a penalty.

A tax deadline extension has been approved by the governor for several school districts, including Wantagh and Seaford.

Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray and Receiver of Taxes Donald X. Clavin, Jr. had requested the extension for all school districts within the township, however the governor has signed an order that only includes districts which have independently requested an extension.

Accordingly, residents of both Wantagh and Seaford School Districts may pay their school taxes, without penalty, until Dec. 4.

Residents of all other districts in Hempstead Town must make their payments by not later than Tuesday, Nov. 13, to avoid incurring a penalty.

Interesting that this article comes out today. On Friday, 11/9, I was told by BOTH Kate Murray's office and Gov. Cuomo's office that the extension was denied. Communication seems to be a problem everywhere. Funny the extension is announced on the day the taxes are due, since we would have needed to mail them out before now. Once again, too little, too late.

i was the 1 quietlly sobbing in at the hempstead tax office last friday (widow). 1 of the women clerks who works there called security to try and have me removed for taking a cellphone call from 1 of my kids as i was figuring out how to afford to pay on my tax bills and leave a cushion for all the outlays on damage after being evacuated + homeless after the storm...i havent had children in school for over 10 years + for all that 'education.. 1 is handicaaped + cant get a job + the other is a clerk'.. be that as it may...the clerks there said they were waiting to hear from the state to see if the extension would be approved today the last day before the penalty period! so for the first time in years i paid 'half' to keep a cushion for all the big dollar sandyoutlays i have to wait for reimbursement on. if i pay the 2nd half before the dec 4 due date will i get the discount for ontime payment? i was told that if i paid the second half by today if the governor didnt sign the order,,,, i would still have to pay the interest charge for writing out 2 checks on 2 separate days. is this the thanks we get?,,,adding insult to injury....the whole business of this is so very frustrating.

For Wendy--I am so sorry for all you have lost. I cannot believe you still have no heat. I pray for you and others in your situation. Good luck!

TOH was denied their request for extension by the Governor. Since the TOH only collects taxes for school districts individual school districts had to request extension.
