Halesite Drainage Work in Full Swing

State project includes roadway improvements, roundabouts.

The $18 million state drainage and roadway project for Route 110 in Halesite is in full swing, with a targeted completion date of the summer of 2013.

Two roundabouts are being constructed at Creek Road and Mill Dam Road.  A drainage treatment/filtration basin is being constructed between those two roads.

The work, stretching from Prime Avenue to Mill Dam Road, has meant the closing of lanes of traffic and tougher access to many shops.

On occasion, pedestrians weave in and out of lines of cars. But the state Department of Transportation said the drainage work should mean the end of the flooding of the road after relatively minor amounts of rain, the cause of many complaints over the years.

i would like to know why town of huntington taxpayers pay for highway barricade to be a political billboard for the highway Superintendent, and they don't even meet dot safety standards. but neither do the chainsaws, leaf blowers, road cones, barrels, or using diesel gas with asphalt. the last time the state dot safety inspector visited the highway dept he was only scheduled to be there for an hour but stayed for over three hours because he feared for the highway workers safety. outside of the new big yellow rolling billboards you call highway trucks the concerns for safety leave much to be desired

What a mess..i live in huntington and have to pass both of those roundabouts everyday...did the state even consider that huntington is a boaters town with lots of marinas past mill dam that wont have a chance to get big rigs and boats in and out of town without major problems! how about having people that do contracting and overseeing jobs actually know the area before chopping up roads a making things worse...why do we even have elected officials if they cant figure this out....duh..very sad!
