Jones Beach Partially Re-Opens After Damage From Sandy

Certain areas of state park in Wantagh made accessible to public a little more than two weeks after being struck by superstorm.

A portion of Jones Beach State Park in Wantagh was re-opened Thursday a little more than two weeks after it was battered by Superstorm Sandy.

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation announced Thursday that Field 2 and West End II at Jones Beach State Park opened at noon Thursday. State Park officials said that the facility building located in Field 2 will remain closed due to no electrical service but portable toilets will be made available in that area. The beachfront area of Jones Beach will be open to the public but there will be no access to the boardwalk, state park officials said.

Jones Beach will be accessible from the Meadowbrook and Wantagh Parkways. State official said vehicle traffic will be prohibited east of the Jones Beach traffic circle.
