Jones Beach Summer Season Continues For 2 More Weekends

Lifeguards to remain on duty through Sept. 19.

Labor Day weekend may have passed marking the unofficial end to summer and schools are back in session, but the beach season is continuing for local residents. Jones Beach State Park in Wantagh will continue to have lifeguards on duty for the next two weekends.

New York State Parks spokesman George Gorman said while other Long Island beaches stop patrolling lifeguards after Labor Day the state feels it is important to continue to allow swimming past mid September.  He said swimmers tend to want to hit the water in September when temperatures are warmer after having the whole summer to heat up.

To enter Jones Beach through Sept. 19 parking is $10 until 6 p.m. For further information log onto the Jones Beach website.
