King, CNN Anchor Spar Over 'Apology Tour' Comment

Congressman defends remarks saying President Obama has apologized for past U.S. policies in the Middle East.

Rep. Peter King, R-Seaford, and CNN anchor Soledad O’Brien got into a heated discussion Monday morning on the cable news network over King’s assertion the President has apologized for past U.S. policies in the Middle East.

According to a report on rawstory.com, following the recent violence at several U.S. embassies in the Middle East and elsewhere over an anti-Muslim video on YouTube, several prominent Republicans including King said President Obama spent time during his first term on an “apology tour.”

During the CNN interview, O’Brien asked King, “What specific apologies are you talking about?”

The congressman responded, “I would say when [the President] was in Cairo in 2009, when he was basically apologizing for American policies, saying American policies sometimes had gone too far.”

O’Brien responded that the President in the speech mentioned by King did not use the word “apology” and never once said, “I’m sorry.”
