Local Eagle Scout Helps Spruce Up Forest City Community Park

Michael Peter Messina of Levittown conducts beatification project for park in Wantagh.

in Wantagh recently received an extensive beautification upgrade thanks to an Eagle Scout project headed by Michael Peter Messina of Levittown.

Prospective Eagle Scouts are required to undertake a project to improve the community. These projects are completely funded by donations, either monetary or by supplying essential items. Messina chose to revamp Forest City Community Park and finish some upgrades that the Town of Hempstead had already been working on.

“Since the town had done so much work…the last piece of the puzzle was the sign and the entrance areas by pool,” said Hempstead Town Councilman Gary Hudes, R-Levittown.

Hudes met with Messina and his mother to discuss the project’s goals. The main sign needed to look more “natural,” as to blend in with the “wilderness look” of the park. Messina’s team also beautified the area around the sign.

Town officials said Messina helped remove weeds and garbage, planted bushes and bulbs and rebuilt the park bench. “It added a nice touch to all the work the town had done,” said Hudes.
