'Missing' Swimmer's Son Arrested

The son of the Massapequa resident who was reported missing at Jones Beach and later turned up alive, has been arrested, Parks Police said.

Jon Roth, 22, was arrested Wednesday afternoon at about 4 p.m. according to New York State Parks Police Capt. Bruce Marx.

Roth, who was being transferred from a Parks police facility in Babylon to the Nassau County's District Attorney's office, has been charged with insurance fraud, conspiracy to commit insurance fraud, and falsely reporting an incident, according to a spokesman for the Nassau County District Attorney.

He will be arraigned Tuesday.

Roth Raymond Roth missing on July 28th, setting off a massive search by authorities. On Wednesday, it was learned that he was alive and had been stopped by police in South Carolina.

On Friday the missing in which she said Jon Roth, her stepson, had exchanged emails with his father the day before he vanished. The emails indicated that her husband was planning his disappearance.

Evana Roth's lawyer, Lennard Leeds, said the charges "vindicate" his client. This appears to be a scheme and conspiracy between her husband and stepson," he said. " We look forward to seeing the charges prosecuted in court.” 

Raymond Roth hasn't been seen in several days and Marx couldn't immediately confirm a report by WABC TV/Ch. 7 that he checked himself into a mental health facility.

The police captain said the investigation into Raymond Roth's actions is continuing.
