Free Legal Clinics for Sandy Victims

Nassau Bar Association attorneys continue to volunteer with post-Sandy legal issues.

Nassau County Bar Association attorneys continue to volunteer to help residents deal with the many complex legal issues involved in the aftermath of the devastating effects of Superstorm Sandy.

NCBA President Marian Rice today announced that free legal consultation clinics have been scheduled for Monday, March 11, 3-6 p.m. and Monday, March 18, 3-6 p.m. at the NCBA on 15th Street at the corner of West Street in Mineola, three blocks south of the Mineola train station and bus depot.

Nassau residents dealing with the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy can meet one-on-one with an attorney for free legal consultation, advice and referral information. In addition, representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the US Small Business Administration (SBA) will be on hand to assist residents.

Residents are asked to contact the Nassau County Bar at 516-747-4070 to schedule an appointment time to ensure an attorney will be available, and are encouraged to bring any significant documents, leases, insurance agreements or paperwork.

Attorneys fluent in Spanish, Korean, Russian, Haitian Creole, Urdu, or other languages will be made available upon request when registering. Walk-ins are welcome.

Attorneys and agency representatives will be able to help residents in the following areas:

  • Homeowner, flood, property damage and automobile insurance claims
  • FEMA assistance and grants
  • Debt deferral
  • Bankruptcy
  • Consumer Protection issues (contractors, etc.)
  • Landlord-Tenant issues
  • Assistance in dealing with lenders to avoid foreclosure
  • Legal assistance for health/disability/personal injury/post-traumatic stress issues
  • Small business issues

To date, NCBA has held 16 Sandy Recovery legal clinics including several in Long Beach, Freeport and East Rockaway, helping more than 750 people. The Nassau Bar Association is dedicated to continuing to assist as long as there is need. For more information and the newest clinic dates, please visit www.nassaubar.org.

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.

True, true, I'm sure there's a political payoff/payback here somewhere.

A tantalizing, mind-teasing story about a faceless team with no names who won honorable mention forRead More some project about which we learned absolutely nothing from this article. Journalism 101: Who what, why when and where?
