King Wins Reelection in Changed District

Incumbent well ahead in Nassau and Suffolk counties.

Seaford native Peter King had been re-elected, defeating Democratic challenger Vivianne Falcone of West Islip in a race that put him in new territory on Long Island.

With all districts reporting, King led 53.2 percent to 46.7 percent in Suffolk. In Nassau, King led 71.6 percent to 28.4 percent with all precincts reporting.

King already recognized his large lead and announced his victory via Facebook.

"A huge thank you to everyone for their support," King wrote. "I look forward to representing the new 2nd Congressional District for the next two years."

While the congressman was an strong favorite in the race, he ran this year in a district that was considerably different than two years ago. The redrawn second congressional district shifted further east into Suffolk County to include the communities of Deer Park, Sayville and Bayport, while eliminating several central and western Nassau communities such as Long Beach.

King, who was first elected to office in the Second Congressional District in 1992, has represented areas on Long Island and served twice as the Chairman of the United States House Committee on Homeland Security. King has often been outspoken about terrorism, especially following the September 11th, 2001 attacks.

Falcone is a West Islip teacher and has served as an adjunct instructor for the Developmental Studies Program (EOC) at SUNY Farmingdale and was an alternate school teacher at Bellport High School. She was a founding member of Partners Advancing West Islip Students (PAWS) and has participated in the West Islip PTA, Girl Scouts, and St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in West Babylon.

Outspoken against terrorism? Please. For over 30 years King was one of the biggest supporters this side of the Atlantic for the IRA, which was responsible for the deaths of hundreds of innocent people. He was instrumental in helping NORAID smuggle weapons and funds to aid the IRA's cause. Not only that, but this image of King being a supporter of survivors and victims of 9/11 is a myth. He voted against the Zadroga 9/11 healthcare bill for the heroes originally, and it was only by Anthony Weiner shaming him on the House floor that changed his vote. He is an utter disgrace and a filthy hypocrite. As his constituient, I deserve better, and the 2nd district deserves better.
