Seaford Historical Society Receives $20,000 Grant

Organization will use funding to renovate its 19th century building.

The Seaford Historical Society has received a legislative grant from Nassau County that will be used to renovate the organization's 19th century building.

The Nassau County Legislature unanimously approved last month a $20,000 grant for the Seaford Historical Society. The grant money was secured from motel and motel tax funds. Other local groups to receive funding from the legislative grant include the Historical Society of the Merricks and Freeport Historical Society, with both receiving $15,000.

Seaford Historical Society president Charles Wroblewski said the $20,000 will be used for renovations to the organization's building, which was built in 1893 and originally served as a schoolhouse. Wroblewski said the funding will go a long way toward the organization's goal of bringing the facility up to building code so that the Seaford Historical Museum can be re-opened to the public. He credited Nassau County Legis. David Denenberg, D-Merrick, for his efforts in securing the grant.
