John Capano’s name will live on forever in the neighborhood he grew up in.
A street dedication is scheduled this Saturday morning for Capano, a and Massapequa resident who was when he attempted to prevent an armed robbery at this past New Year’s Eve. The 10:30 a.m. ceremony will take place across the street from the 1978 graduate’s childhood home where his father still lives at the corner of Waverly Avenue and Seamans Neck Road.
The street dedication for Capano will come a little more than two weeks after the Town of Oyster Bay in the late ATF agent's memory near his family's Massapequa home. Capano served 23 years as an agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and was a member of the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association as well as the International Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigators. His heralded ATF career included teaching U.S. military and local forces in Afghanistan and Iraq how to investigate blasts.
Saturday’s street dedication ceremony in Seaford for Capano is being organized by the Town of Hempstead. Scheduled to speak are , Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray and Councilwoman Angie Cullin, R-Freeport. The Nassau County Police Bagpipe Band will also perform.
