Supermarket Union Endorses Weitzman

The Local 1500 union said the Democrat would look out for the working class.

Howard Weitzman, the Democratic candidate for comptroller, has earned the endorsement of a major union.

Weitzman, who held the job until losing it to current Comptroller George Maragos, was lauded by the president of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW) Local 1500, the state's largest grocery workers union.

President Bruce W. Both said Weitzman was committed to protecting low-wage earners, holding companies responsible for predatory practices and an advocate for the working class.

UFCW Local 1500 represents 23,000 workers. Those members are employed at various King Kullen, Stop & Shop and Shop Rite supermarkets.
