Tell Us: Post-Sandy West Shore Road Repairs

What do you think of the plans so far to repair the destroyed road between Oyster Bay and Bayville?

Since Hurricane Sandy tore apart West Shore Road, lawmakers and residents have been brainstorming on how to not only repair, but improve the coastal roadway.

In November, County Executive Ed Mangano halving the repair time to nine months while closing the road for the entirety of the repair time.

The Repair West Shore Road group shot back with citing the quicker deadline for Ocean Parkway's repair as a reason why the process should be quicker.

What do you think of the plans so far to repair West Shore Road? Is nine months a good amount of time for such a repair process or should it be expedited? How have the road closures impacted your commute between Bayville and Oyster Bay?

Tell us in the comments.

If we don't get a sidewalk and bike lane, it's all for naught.

When it comes time for paving, West Shore Road road needs 4' shoulders and a paved walking path or it will NOT ACCOMMODATE 11,000 cars each day and the accident rate will remain at 400% the NY State average of 2-lane roads.

From an Oyster Bay resident's viewpoint, a bike path along the shore would be wonderful, something akin to the linear park along the Cross Island Parkway south of the LIE. (smaller version)
