Town: Area Roads 'Passable'

Warming centers open through Saturday.

After a snow storm blanketed the Wantagh-Seaford area Friday morning, Town of Hempstead officials said that area rooads were "passable" Friday afternoon.

"We will continue to clear roadways for the safety of those traveling on town streets," said Mike Deery, the town's Director of Communications.  "Roads are passable as we continue to groom them and clear remaining snow.”

Deery said workers hit town streets and commuter lots early Thursday morning, and salted the area throughout the day, before plows went through the area late Thursday night.

Plowing continued throughout the day Friday and Deery said that some drifting has occurred due to high winds.

Meanwhile, Town Warming Centers, including one in Wantagh will remain open Saturday.

It will operate at the Wantagh Senior Center from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Also reopening Saturday will be the Wantagh Public Library.

Roads in Wantagh are not passable! Plows have not been south of Merrick road, on Merrick rd or Wantagh ave!! But they have plowed Wantagh park - yeah someone might want to drive through the park to get to the pool!

Merrick Rd and Sunrise Hwy in Seaford were full of snow in the afternoon. Didn't seem that the plows came through at all on Friday. I saw cars slipping and sliding on Sunrise Hwy, especially at the intersection of Seamans Neck Rd.

I called the State and county to take care of the roads.I was very unhappy with the conditions. They told me that they are working on them..... I told them that Sunrise highway out East was the best I've ever seen it. Nassau County F minus for all roads.
