Town to Hold Zoning Hearing on Demott Avenue Pumping Station

New York American Water to formally ask for go ahead on two structure project announced in March.

A public hearing is will be held Wednesday on New York American Water's plan to build a well pumping station at the intersection of Demott Avenue and Interlake Drive in Wantagh.

The project, which broke ground in March, called for construction of two one-story structures designed to help increase water pressure for the company's customers.

The two structure design was put forward after massive opposition was mounted  to an original proposal in 2011 that called for a 150-foot water tower.

Hempstead Susie Trenkle-Pokalsky said that the there has been no change to the project from when it was announced in March. She said the company is going to the board  because they the had not requested the needed variance  at the time of that announcement.

The project would  include a new well, piping and pumps,  and would enhance flow for fire protection during critical high-demand usage periods, according to town officials, who also promised the structures will be aesthetically pleasing to residents.
