Town to Host Hockey Program for Kids

Town teams up with New York Rangers for "Try Hockey for Free" program.

If your kid has dreams of being the next Wayne Gretzky of Henrik Lunqvist, the Town of Oyster Bay is giving them a chance to start, and it won't cost you anything.

The town sponsoring a "Try Hockey for Free" program on Nov. 17 at the Ice Skating Center in Bethpage Community Park.

The program is being co-sponsored by the NHL's New York Rangers "Future Rangers" program," and there will be two sessions. One goes from 9 a.m.-9:40 a.m., while the second runs from 9:50 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Kids will be provided with equipment in the free clinic and also have a chance to meet former Rangers great Brian Mullen.

“The session will also give parents the opportunity to assess if the sport of ice hockey is a good fit for their youngster, without making an initial financial commitment,” Town Supervisor John Venditto said.

Time will also be time set aside for autographs and photo sessions.
