Wantagh Chamber of Commerce Hosts Installation Dinner

Third time is a charm after event was postponed twice due to inclement weather.

Friends and family came out to  last Tuesday for the annual  Installation dinner and dance.

The event had been previously scheduled for the winter but was postoned twice due to inclement weather. Past president Edward Donnelly took this opportunity to honor board members and Wantagh business owners at the event with plaques and awards. Current Wantagh Chamber of Commerce president Christopher Brown kicked off the installation dinner by handing out awards to the current board members Thomas Kane, Ira Reiter, Paul Roberts, David Speigel, Marlena Schein and Eugene Wood.

The following members were sworn in by the office of Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray prior to dinner and received their plaques and awards; First-Vice President Denise Langweber, Esq., Second-Vice President Jim Colotti, Corresponding Secretary Linda Swanson, Recording Secretary Joan Mahoney and Treasurer Carole Friedman.

A citizen of the year award was posthumously given to past Wantagh Chamber of Commerce board member Janice Seyfried of the Kiwanis Club of Wantagh, who passed away on St. Patrick's Day.

"She was very active, especially in Kiwanis, and has contributed a lot to these organizations," said Donnelly. "We wish to honor Janice and appreciate her good works."

Other awards were given out to a number of businesses throughout Wantagh. The beautification award went to Capital One Bank manager Karen Drummond, the organization of the year award went to president of the Paumanacke Garden Club Loretta Lentini, the President's Choice award was given to John Theissen of the  and Timothy Jaccard from the Children of Hope took home the Lifetime Achievement Award.

According to Brown, the Wantagh Chamber of Commerce’s main mission is to make Wantagh businesses flourish throughout the area.

"I think we have a great board this year," said Brown. "If there's one thing that I leave behind after becoming president it would be to help businesses grow in Wantagh."
