Nassau County will be conducting ground spraying in the Massapequas Thursday near the Seaford border, health officials have announced.
The spraying will take place from 7 p.m. through 2 a.m. in areas surrounding the Massapequa Preserve, which is located roughly a half mile from the Seaford-Massapequa border off Merrick Road.
Spray trucks will work in an area bounded by Jerusalem Avenue on the north;Merrick Road on the south;the area stretching from Cartwight Boulevard to Broadway on the east and Hicksville Road on the west.
The Nassau County Health Department says the risk of adverse health affects from spraying is low, but pregnant women and children, should remain inside during the spraying and for about 30 minutes afterwards.
You can minimize exposure by:
- Keeping windows and doors shut, setting air conditioners to re-circulate and turning window fans off.
- Keeping children's toys indoors.
- Keeping pets indoors, as well as their food, water dishes and toys.
- Covering fishponds during the spray period.
