Acting Principal Appointed for Forest Lake Elementary School

Wantagh Board of Education taps the district's Director of Pupil Personnel Services Louis Hirschfield to post after school's longtime principal is named acting superintendent.

The Wantagh Board of Education has appointed the district’s Director of Pupil Personnel Services Louis Hirschfield as Acting Principal at Forest Lake Elementary School.

Hirschfield takes over for former longtime Forest Lake Principal Maureen Goldberg after she was named acting superintendent on Wednesday. Goldberg was promoted after the sudden departure of Wantagh Superintendent Phil D’Angelo after less than three months on the job.

Michael Cucci, president of the Wantagh Board of Education issued a statement early Friday afternoon saying that Hirschfield will assume the principal responsibilities at Forest Lake until an interim principal is appointed. He will also continue to serve in his role as Director of Pupil Personnel Services.

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.
