Cucci Elected as New Wantagh School Board President

Longtime trustee to fill leadership position for fourth time.

The Wantagh Board of Education unanimously elected Michael Cucci as its new president during Tuesday night’s reorganization meeting in the Auditorium. 

Cucci, who is entering his 14th year on the school board, replaces William Russack, who as president at least year’s reorganization meeting. It marks the fourth time that Cucci has been tapped as school board president.

The Wantagh school board also unanimously voted to elect Jean Quinn as vice president. Quinn, who was first elected as Wantagh trustee in 2007, served as school board president from 2009-2011.

Both Cucci and Quinn are Wantagh High School graduates. 

Tuesday night’s Wantagh school board meeting was the first for ., who took over as the district’s leader on July 1. D’Angelo, who was previously superintendent for the Skaneateles Central School District in upstate New York, replaces Dr. Lydia Begley after she left on Sept. 26 for a  at Nassau BOCES. Following Begley’s departure, and former Wantagh superintendent  served in interim superintendent roles during the 2011/12 school year. 

The next Wantagh Board of Education meeting is scheduled for Aug. 23 at 8 p.m. in the Wantagh High School Auditorium.
