Donation Accepted for Seaford Harbor School Playground

A $58,804 check presented at Thursday night's Board of Education meeting to be utilized for new kindergarten playground at elementary school.

The Seaford Board of Education accepted a donation during its Thursday night meeting that will be utilized for a new kindergarten playground at .

A $58,804 check was presented by Lisa Garcia, co-president of Seaford Harbor PTA, to Superintendent Brian Conboy. The donation included funds raised by the Seaford Harbor School PTA as well as a that was awarded by the Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation to be used toward the new playground. Seaford Harbor School parent Melanie Schnaier spearheaded the grant application process with Lowe’s. 

“I think it’s really terrific you pulled this off,” said Board of Education President Brian Fagan in thanking the Seaford Harbor School PTA for their donation,

The new playground will be designed for kindergarten and first grade students who have various learning styles. The Seaford Harbor School has been without a kindergarten playground the last year when the old one that featured wooden structures needed to be removed due to safety concerns.

Construction of the new Seaford Harbor School playground is expected to begin early in the summer and be ready for when students return to classes in September.

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.
