Farmingdale State Student from Wantagh Receives Chancellor’s Award

Wantagh High School graduate Tara Polla is one of 243 students from SUNY campuses across New York State to receive academic honor.

A Farmingdale State College student from Wantagh was one of 243 students from SUNY campuses across New York State to receive a Chancellor's Award.

Tara Polla of Wantagh recently received the Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence at a reception in Albany. She was honored with the achievement by Nancy L. Zimpher, Chancellor of the State University of New York, at a reception in Albany. The award was created to recognize students who have best demonstrated and been recognized for the integration of academic excellence with accomplishments in the areas of leadership, athletics, community service, creative and performing arts or career achievement.

Polla is a Nursing major who has been named to the President’s List as well as to Sigma Theta Tau, the International Honor Society of Nursing.  As a board member of the the International Honor Society of Nursing, Polla was able to attend global health and nursing strategy lectures at the United Nations. At Farmingdale State College, as a member of the Student Nurse Association, Polla participated in conferences on Quality and Safety Education for Nurses.  

Polla, a Wantagh High School graduate, has also participated in many community service ventures, including volunteering at a Flu Clinic which immunized 400 senior citizens and helping health care workers in a disaster drill at Queens Hospital. She also volunteered in Breezy Point to help homeowners recover from the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
