Forest Lake Students Observe Flag Day

Elementary school holds ceremony in honor of patriotic holiday.

Kindergarten through fifth-grade students at Wantagh’s gathered outside the school building on June 14 in honor of Flag Day.

“The purpose of this day is to celebrate the wonderful country we live in and to honor the flag that represents it,” said Forest Lake Principal Maureen Goldberg in her opening remarks, which were followed by kindergarteners leading the school community in the pledge of allegiance.

The ceremony also included patriotic performances from the fifth-grade band and presentations on the meaning of the pledge. Interim Superintendent of Schools Carl Bonuso closed the event by reflecting on his service in the military and what the flag meant to him during that time.
