Hagedorn Little Village School Holds Successful Golf Fundraiser

Seaford school for children with special needs gearing up for future benefits.

The Hagedorn Little Village School in Seaford held a successful golf tournament fundraiser on June 20.

Over 120 golfers teed off on Sands Point Golf Club to help raise money for learning equipment for children with special needs. Maureen McElwreath, Hagedorn’s Coordinator of Research & Development, did not say how much money was raised at the event but described the tournament as a success.

"It was a beautiful, perfect sunny day,” said McElwreath. “Everyone had such a wonderful time.”

McElwreath emphasized the importance of these fundraisers due to the high costs of the equipment, which is crucial to the growth of their students. There are augmentative devices that assist children with non-verbal disabilities which can cost around $7,000 each. For students with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, and ALS, such learning tools are necessary for their development.

This fall, Hagedorn will hold their annual Golden Rule Award Dinner at the Fresh Meadow Country Club in Lake Success. These events are not only fundraisers, but honor those who have supported the school throughout the years.

On October 20, this years' Golden Rule Award Recipient will go to Robert Grotsky. Involved with the school since 2005, Grotsky has served on the Golden Rule Dinner Committee since 2008 and has been the committee’s Chair- man for the last two years.

Also that night, Greg and Lina Carman, the parents of Hagedorn graduate, will receive the Susan Weshler Memorial Award.
