MacArthur Ranked Among Top High Schools

U.S News and World Report gives high marks to Levittown school attended by students from northern areas of Wantagh and Seaford.

 in Levittown, which is attended by students in the northern areas of Wantagh and Seaford, has been recognized as one of the top high schools in the state and nation.

MacArthur, located on 3369 Old Jerusalem Road on the Levittown-Wantagh border, was ranked 79th in the recently released U.S. News & World Report Best High Schools in New York rankings. The school in the Levittown District also ranked as 622nd nationally, according to the report. The rankings are determined based on college readiness, math and English proficiency and student-to-teacher ratio.

Students at MacArthur were graded with a college readiness of 41.3, above the New York average. Math proficiency was scored 3.7 out of 4, while English received a 3.6, both above the state average. The average class size listed in the report was 13:1, which is near the state average.

Levittown Assistant Superintendent of Schools Debbie Rifkin stated that the district’s administration is proud of this academic ranking and the achievements of the students.

“This information is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the administration, teachers, and students,” she said. 

MacArthur was also  when it was named to the national magazine's America's Best High Schools list.

and were not included in the U.S World & News Report rankings but data was provided for the two schools. Wantagh' college readiness index in the report was 30.1 and Seaford's was 29.7

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.
