MacArthur Track to Hold Zumba Fundraiser With Hofstra Dance Team

Monday evening's event to support the MacArthur track and cross country teams.

MacArthur High School's Mercury Club, which helps support its track and cross country teams, will be holding a Zumba Fundraiser with the Hofstra University Dance team on Monday.

The club is connected to the dance team through a family whose oldest daughter danced on the team, and younger daughter who ran for MacArthur High School, which is in the Levittown School District and is also attended by students in northern sections of Wantagh and Seaford. Funds raised from the event goes directly towards the track and cross country programs.

"Last year alone we paid for a second jump pit, used for the long jump and triple jump," said Jeff Archer, president of the Mercury Club. "We also bought the school a complete set of hurdles and purchased a second storage container to house track equipment."
The club has also funded entry fees for meets and help offset expenses for overnight meets, Archer said.

Last year, the club held the first annual Hall of Fame dinner, where they recognized MacArthur Track Alumni - '03 graduate Sean Depuy and '07 graduate Jessica Balling were named the inaugural inductees.

The Zumba Fundraiser runs from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Levittown Memorial Education Center on Monday evening. The cost of the fundraiser is $10, and the club is also requesting participants bring an unwrapped toy, which will be donated to the Wantagh-based John Thiessen Children's Foundation's annual toy drive.
