Mandalay Class Holds MLK Event

Students place project in school lobby

First-graders at Mandalay Elementary School celebrated the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. and created a project honoring the civil rights leader last week.

The students read about Dr. King's life, including a biography by his sister Christine King Farris.

Then they took part in a writing assignment in which they wrote about how they'd like to be more like Dr. King. They also decorated paper cutout figures, on which they wrote their dreams for the world, based on Dr. king's teachings.

A showcase which included students' essays and posters was placed in the school library.
