Megan Monaghan of the Maria Regina School in Seaford is one of six Nassau County student winners in 2013 New York Humane Society Essay Contest.

A Maria Regina School student was one of six winners from Nassau County named in the 2013 New York Humane Society Essay Contest.

Megan Monaghan of the Maria Regina School in Seaford along with the five other Nassau County student winners were honored in a ceremony at the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building in Mineola on May 8. Linda Mangano presented the students with citations on behalf of County Executive Mangano.

This year marks the 10th year that Nassau County has co-sponsored this event with the Humane Society of New York as part of “Be Kind to Animals Week.”  The essay theme for 2013 was, “If I could wave a magic wand, what would I do to make this world better for animals?”

Winners received a tote bag and a Barnes and Noble gift certificate from the Humane Society, and a gift basket from the North Shore Animal League.

“I would like to congratulate all of our student essay winners,” said Linda Mangano. “Their words of protection, healing and caring for animals are truly inspiring.”
