Maria Regina Students Explore American Indian Culture

Fourth and fifth graders at Seaford Catholic school take part in presentation called "Journeys into Native American Territories."

Fourth and fifth graders at Maria Regina School in Seaford recently explored American Indian culture through a presentation called "Journeys into Native American Territories."

With guidance of the presenters, Bob Vetter and Jamie Reason, students experienced first-hand the music, government, shelters, lifestyles and community of the Eastern Woodlands People. Through a variety of hands – on workshops, students gained a better understanding of the beliefs and way of life of these first inhabitants of North America.

Students played traditional games, explored tribal government practices and learned how ‘technology’ was evident in the tools and weapons made and used. Traditional music, storytelling, and dance were also shared much to the delight of all participants.
