Maureen Goldberg to be Tapped Wantagh Superintendent

Wantagh school board scheduled to appoint acting superintendent to post on an permanent basis at its Thursday night meeting.

Maureen Goldberg, who was appointed acting superintendent for the Wantagh School District last September, will now hold the administrative post on a permanent basis.

The Wantagh Board of Education is scheduled to approve the appointment of Goldberg as the district’s superintendent of schools during its meeting Thursday night at Wantagh High School. According to the board agenda posted on the district's website, Goldberg will make an annual salary of $225,000.

Goldberg, who was previously principal at Forest Lake Elementary School, became Wantagh’s acting superintendent in mid September following the sudden departure of Phil D’Angelo after less than three months in the superintendent role when he was placed on paid administrative leave for undisclosed reasons. D’Angelo began a new job as superintendent of the Millbrook Central School District in Westchester County on Jan. 1.

“We are confident she possesses the leadership skills and commitment to lead our district to the next level of success and look forward to working together to achieve our mutual goals,” said Michael Cucci, president of the Wantagh school board, in a message delivered to district parents Wednesday.

Thursday night’s board of education meeting is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. in the Wantagh High School Auditorium.
