New Leadership, Fresh Faces for Wantagh School Board

New president and vice president elected during Tuesday's reorganization meeting with two newly elected trustees also sworn in.

The Wantagh school board underwent a leadership change while also welcoming in two fresh faces during Tuesday night’s reorganization meeting.

Trustees Michael Soethout and Tony Greco were voted in as president and vice president, respectively, for the 2013/14 school year. Soethout takes over the leadership post from Michael Cucci, who served as president during the 2012/13 school year. Greco replaces Jean Quinn, who opted not to seek reelection this past spring.

Newly elected trustees, Kera McLoughlin and 18-year old Peter Mountanos, were also sworn in during their first official meeting as Wantagh school board members. Mountanos, a 2012 Wantagh High School graduate who just completed his freshman year at New York University, is now the youngest Wantagh school board trustee in history.

Soethout, a liability litigations claims specialist, was first elected to the Wantagh school board in 2011.

“As board president I want to do the best possible job communicating with the public,” said Soethout following Tuesday’s meeting held in the Wantagh High School Auditorium. “I’m excited to work together with the fellow board members and administrators to see how we can help our district go forward to even better heights and achievements.”
