New Scoreboard Planned at Seaford HS

Funding would come from $30,000 grant Legis. Dennise Dunne, R-Levittown, is planning to adopt in county legislature this summer.

Seaford High School may soon be home to a new scoreboard thanks to some help from a local lawmaker.

The Seaford school board approved a State Environmental Quality Review Act resolution at its Thursday night meeting for the construction of a new scoreboard at the Ray Buckley Field of Dreams. The costs for replacing the current scoreboard would be paid for in a $30,000 grant that Nassau County Legis. Dennis Dunne, R-Levittown, has said he will try and pass the legislature this summer, according to district officials.

“We’re looking to forward to seeing him hand over that check,” said Seaford Board of Education Vice President Richard DiBlasio of Legislator Dunne’s financial support for the project. “It is nice of Dennis Dunne to come forward and offer his assistance and basically paying for the removal and replacement of a scoreboard.”

The current scoreboard is set up for football but is not customized for lacrosse, soccer and field hockey, which are also played at the facility. The scoreboard has at times not been functional during some games the last two years.

Seaford Superintendent Brian Conboy said he hopes the grant can be approved soon so that the new scoreboard can be ready for the start of fall sports.
