Panel to Meet Seaford HS Principal Candidates

Committee comprising students, teachers. administrators and community leaders will help determine finalists to replace retiring Michael Ragon.

A panel will be meeting Monday to help determine finalists to replace Michael Ragon.

The panel will be comprised of students, teachers, administrators and community leaders and will be chaired by John Striffolino, Seaford’s assistant superintendent for curriculum, & instruction. Panel members will meet eight candidates for the Seaford High School position. Superintendent Brian Conboy said during his administrative report at Thursday night’s Board of Education meeting that two internal candidates for the position include current assistant principals at , Carisa Burzynski and Scott Bersin.

“The charge of the committee will be to choose the finalists that will come and meet the board and myself at a later date,” Conboy said. “We hope that by July we have the next Seaford High School principal in place.”

Ragon has been Seaford High School's principal for the past 11 years after previously serving as math coordinator in the Lindenhurst School District. He is also spent 21 years with the New York City Public schools as a teacher and assistant principal.

Ragon’s 11 years as principal at Seaford High School is tied with Ray Buckley as the longest serving in that position.

“If you are able to choose a principal in this day and age that stays with you 11 years and does a good job we are in a very fortunate position,” Conboy said. “We are ready for that challenge.”

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.

True, true, I'm sure there's a political payoff/payback here somewhere.
