Wantagh paused for a parade Saturday.

Nassau Police closed Wantagh Avenue at Jerusalem and locals gathered along sidewalks and street corners to watch the Wantagh High School Homecoming Parade.

The American Legion took the lead. The veterans in full dress, followed shortly by the Warriors Marching Band, gave the parade its attitude and soundtrack.

School board members, cheerleaders and the Homecoming court each glided down the thoroughfare. The sophomore class float, featuring a Rock of Ages theme, was voted the best – and it rocked!

And before you knew it, the gathering had moved on down to the high school and spilled into the bleachers. There was a football game yet to play. Hint: Wantagh won.
