Update: Police Investigate Possible Gun Report at Wantagh High School
High school and middle school placed on lockdown for two hours.
Police searched Wantagh High School Friday morning after receiving a report that a student might have brought a gun to school.
Cops received the report at 9:12 a.m. after a student reported to school officials that he overheard another student saying that somebody may have gone to school with a firearm, Nassau County police police said.
The high school and middle school were placed on lockout procedures for about two hours hours, according to superintendent Maureen Goldberg.
The police have completed a thorough search of the building, including every high school locker, and no weapon was found." Goldberg said.
"At no time was the safety and security of students or staff compromised."
A police source said cops did find a toy gun. It was unclear if this was related to the conversation that caused authorities to be alerted.
