Sandy-Impacted Seaford Students Send Thank You Packages to California School

Seaford Harbor Elementary School students send "thank you" banner and stuffed Viking mascot to Webster Elementary School in Malibu, Calif.

Story by Felicia Febrizio from Seaford School District

Thankful for their generosity after Superstorm Sandy, Seaford Harbor Elementary School students sent a “thank you” banner and a stuffed Viking mascot, along with a personalized letter and fancy pencil for each student at Webster Elementary School in Malibu, Calif.

“All of the kids and adults were thrilled to receive the packages,” said Webster Elementary School Principal Philip Cott. “Everyone was reminded of the part they played in the Sandy relief project and it made them feel great all over again. We hung the banner in the back of our cafeteria/auditorium so every student can see it at lunch.”

In the wake of the storm, Webster Elementary School sent a donation of $600 and three $25 gift cards for the Harbor School, as well as dozens of goody-filled packages for students. Each of the 108 students impacted by the storm received a large envelope containing two books, a $25 Target gift card, two custom-designed bookmarks and several letters from Webster students.

Through a coordinated Skype session held in February, Seaford Harbor Elementary School students had the opportunity to show their gratitude to their west coast supporters while students at Webster Elementary School saw firsthand how their peers in Seaford have weathered Superstorm Sandy.

“I cannot begin to express how touched our students have been by your gift of generosity in our time of need,” Seaford Harbor Principal Donna DeLucia-Troisi wrote to the west-coast school. “We are in the midst of ‘paying it forward’ as we send donations to students in Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas who were devastated by the recent tornadoes.”
