Save Seaford Sports Nearing Spring Fundraising Deadline
Organization striving to revitalize the spring season of middle school athletics.
When the Seaford School District's 2011-12 budget called for the nixing of most middle school sports, a team of parents banded together to restore athletics for the students of Seaford.
The time has come for the final goal to bring back spring athletics and the organization Save Seaford Sports has one more week of fundraising to meet the necessary $70,000.
"We need to raise $30,000 more to save the spring season," said Save Seaford Sports co-founder Ann Lynch. "It's been tough. Business donations have gone down and a drop in attendance to some of our events has hurt us. It's a lot to ask of people to keep donating."

Since September, the organization has hosted countless restaurant nights, parties, raffles, car washes and other fundraisers in efforts to keep athletics alive in the community.
"Our community has really come together," Lynch said, thankful for all the support Save Seaford Sports. "We couldn't believe that our sports were on the chopping block. They need training to be competitive in high school. It teaches them team spirit. They all go to eachother's games and cheer eachother on. We couldn't let them lose what every kid has had before them."

With budget season in full swing for the upcoming school year, Lynch and her colleagues at Save Seaford Sports are hoping the middle school teams are reinstated in the process.
"I hope we pass the budget so our kids don't have to keep going through this," she explained. "I hope we showed that after school activities are part of being a well rounded kid. Extracurricular activities and academics go hand in hand."
Before the March 22 deadline, Save Seaford Sports is hosting a large raffle that they hope will bring the numbers up drastically where first prize is a trip of one's choice and second prize is a flat screen television. For more information on donating, e-mail saveseafordsports@gmail.com.
